Las Vegas

Gentle reader, I last left you bound for Vegas. Whilst what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, a few adventures can be shared.

Bette at Caesar’s Palace was brilliant and will be reviewed at Creme Brulee Critics. I can reveal that we were close enough that Miss Bartlett joined the other Very Important People in dashing to the front of the stage to shake the Divine Miss M’s hand. Security made it quite clear that there would be no after-show opportunity to meet the People’s Diva…have they not heard of the great stage door tradition? Shambles.

Criss Angel (that’s not a typo, that’s Chris with two ‘s’s and an absent ‘h’), former paramour of Ms Britney Spears, an illusionist, was fabulous in Believe at the Luxor. Mind messingly good, he could do all the standard magic tricks (or as Gob on Arrested Development would correct, illusions, a trick is what a hooker does for money…or cocaine) ranging from making birds appear (normally you’d expect one or two, Criss could conjure dozens at a time) and making himself and others disappear. But when he walked up a completely vertical wall I was entirely won over.

Australia’s own Human Nature was performing at the hotel where we stayed. We didn’t bump into the lads but by all accounts their show (Motown hits, presented by Smokey Robinson) opened to much applause.

The nightclubs in Vegas are outrageous, and Studio 54 (club in MGM Grand) didn’t disappoint. That’s all the detail that’s fit to print. Would have similarly little to divulge on LAX (the club in Luxor) but alleged VIP queue that we were in was entirely too long to wait in. With memories of queueing at the original LAX still fresh in our minds, we decided not to repeat the experience.

For more of an account of the goings on in Sin City I suggest you view The Hangover which provides a deceptively brilliant insight into the town.

A wrap up of America will be appearing at a blog near you soon*.

*soon, being completely subjective.

  1. I sincerely hope that the final countdown made an appearance in Mr Angel’s show…
